This guide is for people who have purchased Shadowrocket and are preparing to switch devices or reinstall the app. First, confirm the original Apple ID used for App Store purchases, then redownload the app from your purchased apps. Next, restore your own service details, Config settings, and connection permissions separately. Purchase history and local configuration are different kinds of data; restoring the former does not mean the latter has been transferred.
1. Know What’s in Your Purchase History and What’s Stored Locally
Shadowrocket’s purchase is linked to the Apple ID used to complete the transaction, not to a specific iPhone. Sign in with the original purchasing account to redownload the app from your purchases, usually without paying again. This depends on the purchase remaining valid, the app being available to redownload in your current storefront, and your device meeting compatibility requirements. For system requirements, refer to the App Store listing.
A one-time app purchase is not a service plan. Payment through the App Store covers access to the app; check your existing service account, subscription validity, and server availability separately. This site does not provide, sell, or recommend nodes or subscriptions, and cannot renew or recover accounts for services you already use.
Deleting the app may also remove its data from the device. When migrating from a device backup, what comes back depends on whether the backup included the relevant data and whether the restore completed successfully. Don’t assume that seeing the Shadowrocket icon on your new device means the service list in Home and rules in Config have been fully restored.
2. Redownload from App Store Purchases
Connect your device to a working network, then open the App Store. Menu labels can vary by system version and interface language: on newer interfaces, tap your profile picture and go to Apps → My Apps; older interfaces may show Purchased. In the steps below, “purchased apps” means apps previously acquired with the current account—not the payment history screen.
-
Check the purchasing account
Go to Settings → your account at the top → Media & Purchases and check which account is used for store purchases. It may differ from your iCloud account; use the account you used to purchase Shadowrocket.
-
Open your purchased apps
Go to App Store → your profile picture in the top-right corner → Apps → My Apps. If your system shows Purchased, open that instead. If you need to select a family member, start by checking your own purchases.
-
Search for the app
Search for Shadowrocket in your purchased apps. If there’s a Not on this iPhone filter, use it to narrow the list. If the filter doesn’t find it, return to the full list and search again.
-
Verify the app
Open the product page and confirm the name Shadowrocket, developer Shadow Launch Technology Limited, and app ID 932747118. Then tap the cloud download button and complete account verification.
-
Wait for installation to finish
Return to the Home Screen and wait for the app icon’s progress indicator to finish, then open the app. If the store asks you to verify your account or review terms or payment details, follow the prompts. These prompts alone don’t mean your purchase history has been lost.
Redownloading is handled through your App Store purchases; there’s no need to look for a restore-purchases button in Shadowrocket. Shadowrocket is available only through the App Store. See the genuine app verification page for product checks and purchase information.
3. What to Check If the App Shows a Price or Isn’t in Your Purchases
If the product page still shows a price, stop before making a payment and check the account, purchase receipt, and storefront region in that order. Being signed in to the original account for iCloud doesn’t confirm that the correct store account is in use. Check Media & Purchases specifically.
- Check the account: Compare the Media & Purchases account on your old device with the one on your new device. If you need to switch accounts, first make sure you have the password and can complete two-factor authentication, then change only the purchasing account. Don’t sign out of all of iCloud just to check an app purchase.
- Check the receipt: Find the original purchase receipt, or go to Settings → your account at the top → Media & Purchases → View Account → Purchase History and adjust the date range. Confirm the transaction is for the app and account in question.
- Check hidden purchases: Hidden apps may not appear in the regular purchased list. In your App Store account settings, look for Hidden Purchases. The menu name and whether you can redownload directly depend on the current system interface.
- Check the transaction status: If the original transaction was refunded, it no longer counts as a valid purchase. If you have questions about a charge or which account owns the purchase, contact App Store account support.
If the account region differs, check the storefront first
Store content varies by account Country/Region. Check it at Settings → your account at the top → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region. Your phone’s language, system region, and physical location don’t determine this setting.
If you changed your account region after purchasing, the app may not be available to redownload from the current storefront. Don’t make changing your region the first troubleshooting step: account balance, active subscriptions, and Family Sharing settings can all affect eligibility. Save your purchase receipt, check whether the app is available in your current storefront, then follow Apple’s account process.
In short: verify the purchase before deciding what to do next
If you can’t find a valid purchase under the current account, use the receipt to identify the original purchasing account. If the purchase is listed but you can’t redownload the app, check the storefront region and account prompts. Don’t use a second payment as a substitute for troubleshooting.
4. After Reinstalling, Restore Home and Config Separately
Being able to open a newly installed app doesn’t mean your original services have been imported. First check whether Home contains the service entries you used before, then check whether Config contains your original configuration file. An empty list and a connection failure are different problems: restore data first in the former case; troubleshoot the connection in the latter.
- If you still have your old device: Keep its data intact and check the entries in Home and the name of the configuration currently in use in Config. Use the app’s available export or sharing feature to save any configuration you need, and store the file somewhere you control.
- If you already have your own subscription: Retrieve the subscription URL from your own original records. In Home, tap “+” in the top-right corner, set Type to Subscribe, enter the URL, save, and update. Check that the results match your existing service.
- If you already have a configuration file: Use an available import option in Config to restore it. Open the file to check its contents, then explicitly select the configuration you want to use. A file appearing in the list doesn’t mean it has been selected.
- If you only have the purchase record: Your original App Store receipt does not contain server addresses, passwords, or subscription details. Retrieve those from your own backup, old device, or service account.
Subscription URLs often contain access credentials, so don’t post them publicly in screenshots or Q&A forums. Keep the domain, port, protocol, and authentication fields exactly as provided by your service. Shadowsocks, VMess, VLESS, Trojan, Hysteria2, and WireGuard use different fields; don’t try to reconstruct them based on the entry name alone.
5. Check Global Routing and Permissions Before Connecting
After restoring your services, select one of your working entries in Home, then turn on the connection. When the system first asks to add a VPN configuration, confirm the request is from Shadowrocket, allow it, and complete any verification the device requests. VPN configuration permission is a device-level authorization, not another purchase.
Next, check Global Routing. First confirm which routing mode you used before the restore, so a change in routing isn’t mistaken for a purchase or migration problem. The options below compare three common choices within Shadowrocket. Global Routing may also show Scene; if you use that option, check your existing scene configuration separately.
Config
RecommendedTraffic handling is determined by the currently selected configuration and its rules. First confirm that the Config file has been restored, then check that the policies targeted by rules such as DOMAIN-SUFFIX, GEOIP, IP-CIDR, and the final FINAL rule are still available.
Best for: Using rules as before, with the original configuration fully restored
Proxy
Routes regular traffic through the proxy to compare results with your Config rules. It can’t fix an incorrect password, an unavailable service, or every DNS issue. Restore your original routing mode when the test is complete.
Best for: Checking whether a rules issue or connection problem is more likely when your service details are correct
Direct
Uses a direct connection; this doesn’t confirm that the selected proxy service is working. If the setting is left on Direct after switching devices, access may differ from your old device. Check your original settings before choosing a routing mode.
Best for: Checking your device’s basic network and direct connection
After verifying a manual connection, go to Settings → On Demand and check the automatic connection conditions. On Demand controls when a connection starts; it does not restore purchase eligibility or replace missing configuration. When troubleshooting, change one setting at a time and note how access changes before and after.
6. Common Questions About Restoring Shadowrocket
Can I redownload the app if I don’t have my old iPhone?
On your new device, sign in to Media & Purchases with the original purchasing account and redownload the app from your App Store purchases. The old device doesn’t hold your app purchase eligibility. However, if your connection details were stored only on that device, you’ll need to restore your local configuration from another existing backup or your own service account.
Why isn’t Shadowrocket in my purchases if I’m using the same account?
First confirm you’re checking the account used for store purchases, not just your iCloud account. Then check the full app list, Hidden Purchases, and Purchase History. If you have a receipt but still can’t find the app, keep the transaction details and contact App Store account support to verify the purchase account and storefront region.
Why are there no services when I open the app after redownloading it?
An app purchase doesn’t automatically create service entries. First check whether Home is empty, then restore entries from your own backup or import a subscription you already have. Next, go to Config and confirm the configuration you need is selected. An empty list isn’t a reason to purchase the app again.
Do I have to buy it again on my iPad?
Use the original purchasing account to find the same app in your iPad’s App Store purchases, then verify the app details and download button. Shadowrocket is primarily used on iPhone and iPad. Compatibility with other Apple devices, whether a purchase is universal, and system requirements are determined by the App Store listing.
7. Checklist Before You Consider the Restore Complete
Check app installation and restored usage separately to avoid disruption from repeated deletions or sign-ins. Confirm each item below in order. If one fails, troubleshoot that step rather than starting the purchase process over.
- You can find Shadowrocket in the App Store under the correct account, and the developer and app ID match.
- Your service details are present in Home, subscription update results can be checked, and authentication fields match the original values.
- The required configuration has been restored and selected in Config, and Global Routing matches how you used the app before.
- VPN permission has been granted on the device. After connecting manually, confirm you can reach the destinations you need rather than just checking the connection switch.
- Settings → On Demand matches your current network needs. Wait until verification is complete before organizing the old device or backups.
If the issue involves a charge, a purchase record, or the storefront region, continue with the App Store account checks. If the app opens but connections fail, check Home, Config, Global Routing, and network settings. Handle purchase recovery and connection troubleshooting separately to identify exactly what information you need next.
